Thank You, Sir. May I Have Another?

Right now I am too tired, and too demoralized, and too damned flummoxed to even think straight. But tonight's election results (inconclusive as they are) bring to mind H. L. Mencken's observation that

"Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it -- good and hard."
